I sincerely like all of the three themes-but if I were to choose one-I would have to go with I:Trapped/Stuck and Transience. What intrigues me most about this theme is the coincidence or correlation of the physical make-up of the city and the feeling of no way out expressed on February 3rd.
Moreover, this theme seems to have potential to include a message/call for something positive and/or new (should we decide…) For instance, a family I have had in mind to interview for this project includes parents that were born in Mexico and moved here with their families…their daughter graduated from Ypsi High, then graduated from EMU…met her spouse, who was born and raised in another part of the state, at EMU…they are both successful in their careers and continue to reside in Ypsilanti with their two daughters. What a number of perspectives! Questions about migration, pride in your city, if/how EMU effects the make-up of the Ypsilanti community that is off campus, or/and what defines “getting out”…to name a few.
Finally-many of the topics/subtopics found in themes II and III seem to fit into theme I; which I feel can give us a bigger bag of options to choose from as we compose out presentation.
Gina!
